When is the best time to photograph a newborn?

The best time to take newborn photos (because they sleep a lot and do not really move) is before the two week mark. We want him or her to sleep as much as possible during our shoot so that they will relax and curl into those cute newborn poses.

What time of day is best for a newborn session?

Whenever possible we use natural light (windows) for newborn sessions so we usually schedule for early mornings.

How long will the session take?

Due to the frequent breaks needed to feed, change, sooth and get baby to fall asleep, please be prepared for your session to last anywhere between 4-5 hours. Be patient and remain calm. If baby is cranky and not cooperating please do not worry. We have plenty of time to allow him/her to get comfortable.

How far in advance should we schedule?

We often schedule newborn sessions about 8 weeks in advance but feel free to contact us as soon as early as 12wks in advance. We will select a date the week after you’re due so that you are on our schedule. We understand that baby’s arrival is unpredictable – if baby decides to make his or her debut early or late we will do our best to move the session to accommodate! Due sooner than this? Please contact us asap to see about our availability!

What can I do to prepare?

Think about sets that would make the session more personal. Any props you collect we will try to incorporate (hats, blankets, headbands etc).

Space: If we are coming to your home for the session we will need a clear area for our setup with access to a power outlet. We always prefer natural light so a clear area by a large window would be ideal 🙂

Feel free to have some special mementos and props ready for the shoot. (ie: blankets, hats, headbands, ect  (check Etsy for some fun newborn ideas) These are great for making babies 1st pictures even more personalized and special. A little before the shoot loosen baby’s diaper and remove any tight clothing. Lines from tight socks, diapers or pants take a while to fade, and do not look great in photos…

Since baby will be mostly undressed for the pictures (unless otherwise requested) we want to make the room as comfortable as possible for him/her. We will want to turn the heat up a abit – I will bring a small space heater to help this.

If baby needs to nurse, have a bottle or a diaper change we can take a break at any time… We are working on baby time!

We are not located in Baltimore. Do you travel?

Absolutely, but travel fees apply.

How long until we get our finished photos?

Usually our turnaround is two weeks.

How will we get our hi-res files?

You will be able to download your hi-res files directly from our proofing site with a client-access password. If you would prefer hard-copy delivery you may purchase a USB drive for an additional cost.
